West Allegheny welcomes you to the Boys Basketball Boosters club.  We strive to support basketball programs from K-12 that will be positive and enjoyable. The WABBB supports the district communities of Findlay, North Fayette, Oakdale and McDonald. Take time to read the Booster’s Mission and a brief description of all the programs supported.
Youth Programs –
The WA Boosters support provides better alignment with the Middle and High School’s basketball philosophy than with past programs. Whether your son prefers competitive basketball with emphasis on advancing skills and team success or he simply loves to play the game for fun, our travel and in-house programs are offered to all WA community families.
Little Dribblers
  • Basketball is introduced to K-2 ages, both boys & girls in this program. This age group is structured towards developing skills and learning the game rather than the competitive edge. Our Youth Director instructs ball handling skills and game concepts. Fun skill-games are often used to help make learning more enjoyable. Typically, this very popular offering meets once per week on Saturdays starting the first week of January.
Youth Inhouse
  • Inhouse is open to all boys & girls from 3rd-8th and is all about having fun learning and playing the game of basketball without the stress and focus of competition. Weekly sessions vary by age group, but generally the first 2 weeks will be skills assessment weeks. We coach some basic ball handling drills and shooting then then split up into teams for play. This age group is structured towards teaching the game and rules as well as continue the development of skills and provide competition. All played games are officiated by a certified referee.
High School Intramurals
  • This program is geared to 9th thru 12th boys who do not play competitive basketball for the school teams. Captains are selected across the seniors and they draft their own teams. Weekly matches are scheduled with certified Referees and score-keepers. The teams follow high school game rules and culminate in a year-end playoff to crown a new champion. The program normally runs from mid-January to mid-March.
Youth Travel
  • Travel basketball is offered from 3rd grade to 6th grade levels. Try-outs are typically scheduled for early November. Team Practices begin later in November with league area games played through early March. Travel basketball is very competitive and playing time is not divided up equally. However, it teaches the game and how it’s played at a higher level. Boys in this program will practice 2-4 days per week with league games played at away schools in addition to our own.
School Programs –
Families of West Allegheny still enjoy the financial and coaching support from the school district. The Boosters is a great supporter of our school teams by supplying basketball apparel and other benefits such as sponsoring the teams into other leagues or competitive tournaments that ensures enhanced opportunities for even a greater experience by our players and families.
Middle School 7th- 8th
  • Rosters for a Middle School team are by try-outs and coached by hired staff under the direction of the WA Varsity Head Coach. These 2 teams participate in a school league and typically practice daily.
Freshmen 9th
  • The West Allegheny School District has made tough decisions to the school funds and eliminated the Freshmen basketball program due to financial restraints.  The 9th grade Freshman team continue to be offered each year and will be 100% funded by the WABBB with limited financial support from the parents. This is a critical time in a player’s skills development, so the Boosters are committed to maintain a program for WA Freshmen that is seamless, fulfilling and rewarding.
Varsity & Junior Varsity
  • The WABBB values a lot of focus and investment into our high school teams. Here, core values such as Integrity, Togetherness, Passion, Persevere and Appreciation are stressed. Everyone is competing to be the best they can be (maximizing our potential).  This is not winning every game, it is the process to get better every day through competition against others and/or more importantly ourselves. The Boosters help many facets of the program become a reality through financial and volunteer contributions. A larger percentage of Booster funds are allocated to this program so that our sons can achieve all they deserve as leaders and ambassadors of the West Allegheny Basketball program.
Fundraisers -
In order to provide the best experience possible for every program from Kindergarten to 12th grade, the WABBB charges each player only the cost it requires to operate under the framework each program is designed around. To help supplement the Booster’s efforts across all age groups, one major fundraiser participation is required. As in most years, a raffle drawing with donated and purchased prizes is awarded from the ticket sales each player is asked to be responsible for. The proceeds allow the Boosters to provide additional apparel and other basketball benefits. Another event hosted by the WA Boys Basketball Boosters each year is the WA Youth Tournament. Here, Booster members organize and run tournament play for 3rd thru 8th grade teams open to any school district to join and test their skills. The profits largely help sponsor basketball camps, summer leagues and other benefits as the boys progress through the Booster and school programs. It is vitally important to realize the costs of each program progressively grow with every level and these funds help maintain high return for our players with limited out-of-pocket expenses for the parents.
